When Skies Are Grey

It is a grey and dreary day here in Michigan and boy, am I having a hard time getting motivated! Normally I don’t mind a rainy day if I can just stay in and cuddle up with my puppies, but I have so much that I wanted to accomplish today. This blog post was supposed to be up early this morning and that didn’t happen, so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. The truth is, all I want to do today is watch TV and eat a box of donuts!

I bought this grey plaid skirt from Ruche last winter, and it’s wool material makes it the perfect fall/winter skirt. It makes me feel like I should be going on a sleigh ride wearing a cape, fur hat (faux of course) and muff. Since it is not quite cold enough for all of that yet, I paired it with this kelly green cardigan from ModCloth. These cropped cardigans have definitely become a staple in my wardrobe, they work perfectly with my fuller skirts and fit & flare dresses.

I hope you are having a little more luck staying motivated than I am today. I think it’s time for me to have another cup of coffee……..and maybe that box of donuts ;).

Truly,

Tamara

Swing Into Fall

It has finally started to feel like fall is in full swing here in Michigan! With temperatures falling into the 40s at night, we finally (much to Aaron’s dismay) caved and turned the heat on. Along with the changes in the weather, I feel like life is changing too. We have been busier than usual, I’m still adjusting to a fuller schedule and trying to come up with a routine to keep my blog posting days on track. I must admit that I haven’t been doing very well, but it’s a new week and hopefully with a little better planning I can keep on task. One exciting thing that has happened, is that we finally got our garage re-sided! This may sound very mundane to you, but it has been a long time coming for us so we are pretty excited about it. You can see how much it need to be done in the pictures above! I always used to joke about it and say that it was my shabby chic backdrop for pictures ;). A small part of me was sad to see it go, so we decided to do one last photo shoot in front of it. From now on you will be seeing a freshly re-sided garage behind me in some of my photos :).

This swing dress is another one from Dear Creatures fall 2013 line (I went a little crazy last year). I absolutely love the vintage inspired 1960s vibe! I love all mid-century styles and flip flop between the 50s and 60s being my favorite era, but I think the 60s might have a little more of my heart. One of my favorite ways to layer in the fall/winter is to wear a pair of bright colored tights, I love the way it adds some life and interest to any outfit. Do you think these are bright enough? ;) I bought these shoes from Target YEARS ago and had finally cleaned out my closet and put them in a bag to give to Goodwill. I just could not get them out of my head, so I dug them (and a few other pairs) back out. It is so hard for me to get rid of clothes and shoes, I am such a hoarder! If you could only see my closet (it’s actually a bedroom turned into a closet) you would understand, it’s a little crazy and I think I might have a problem. Admitting it is the first step, right? ;)

Truly,

Tamara

I had just recently been hearing a lot about eShakti, so when they contacted me about doing a review on one of their custom pieces, I of course jumped at the opportunity and I am so glad that I did. Eshakti is an international fashion design company that specializes in custom made clothing for women from size 0-36. You can choose from their standard sizes or you can completely customize a piece to your exact measurements. Even if you don’t decide to completely customize, you also have the option to change the sleeve type, dress length, and the neckline on many different items, you can even choose if you want pockets. If you do decide to go the custom sizing route (which I highly recommend), just make sure to have someone else measure you to insure accurate measurements. Of course I decided to go with a dress, but it was really hard to pick, because they have so many vintage inspired dresses that I love. At first I really wanted to go with a more fitted dress, but unfortunately they were all sold out of the styles I liked. It would have been nice to try the custom sizing option on a more tailored style, since it can be very hard for me to find a fitted dress that fits my top and bottom half equally well. Oh the dilemmas of being a pear shaped girl! ;) I will definitely choose a more tailored style the next time I order from eShakti. I ultimately went with this grey fit and flare dress in a jersey knit. They carry a lot of 100% cotton dresses, but I was looking for something with a little stretch that wouldn’t wrinkle so easily. I also wanted something in a more neutral color so that I would have more styling options. I went with the custom sizing option and had my husband take my measurements, changed the dress length to above the knee and had the pockets removed. I know, I know, some of you are wondering why in the world I would have the pockets removed! I love pockets on dresses as much as the next girl, but I do not like the added bulk that they tend to give my hips and I didn’t want to take the chance. All in all, I am very impressed by this dress, the quality is amazing and the fit is almost perfect. I say almost, because the top is slightly too big and could stand to be a little more fitted, but that could have been our error with the measurements. I know that I will get a lot of wear out of this dress for years to come, and I will definitely be ordering from eShakti again.

You can also find eShakti on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram

Truly,

Tamara

Orange is probably my least favorite color, but when I saw that Modcloth had my favorite skirt in other colors I had to get every single one, including this orange one. I’m really glad that I did too, because as it turns out I really like this color on me. It just goes to show that you have to be open to trying new things, because you never really know if you’ll like it unless you give it a try. I really love the midi skirt trend, it feels very 1950s to me. I have tried countless other midi skirts and this one has been my favorite by far. Some of them tend to be pretty pouffy and well, my pear shaped figure has enough pouf ;). This skirt has just the right amount of volume while still being flattering. There is still a mustard colored one that I have yet to get, but don’t worry, I’ll get you my pretty ;).

Aaron and I went to our local park again to take pictures and we saw the sweetest little frog (you can see him in the last picture). I really wanted to bring him home with us, but Aaron didn’t think he would be too happy. He’s probably right, but he sure was cute :).

I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! It’s extra special for us, because our fur babies, Brutus & Diesel, turn 3 on Monday. And yes, I’m one of those people who celebrate their dogs’ birthdays ;).

Truly,

Tamara

Fit and Flare Forever

Fit and Flare dresses are my favorite silhouette and if you could see my closet you would know that without me even telling you. If I could only wear one style of dress for the rest of my life this would be it. I love many other styles, but no other style flatters my pear shaped figure quite like a fit and flare dress. Fitted on the top where I could use some enhancement and flared out at the bottom to hide a multitude of sins. Perfection! ;) I also love the mid-century vibe that they inevitably give off. If I could have Betty Draper’s (or I guess it’s Francis now) wardrobe I would be one happy lady!

I just got this dress in the mail from Avenle, one of my new favorite online clothing stores. If you haven’t checked them out yet, then I suggest you do. They have so many cute vintage inspired things and if I had unlimited funds I would have ordered a lot more. This dress fits like a dream and is so comfortable. The material has a nice weight and stretch to it and best of all required no ironing straight out of the package (super exciting for me, as I can’t stand ironing and avoid it at all costs)! And of course, one of the most important things to me is that this dress will work well for all seasons. I’m excited to pair it with some tights and a cropped cardigan for the cooler months, but for now I’m happy to hang on to summer and bare legs a little bit longer.

I hope you all had a great weekend. Happy Monday!

Truly,

Tamara

Wednesday’s Love List 7-23-14

1-Desktop1

Today’s love list is a mix of my usual mid-century esthetic and the more bohemian style that I gravitate toward when I’m trying to mix things up. It all depends on my mood :).

1. I love Minnetonka Moccasins and this leopard print pair is so cute! They would go with so many things, plus they feel like you are wearing slippers.

2. I’m loving these shoes from Modcloth. The grey color and vintage look would work year round with all of my 50’s & 60’s style dresses. Also, the heel looks like the perfect height for my non-heel wearing self ;).

3. This pencil skirt from Old Navy would be a closet staple. The ways in which you could style this classic skirt are endless.

4. My obsession with Dear Creatures is never ending and this dress is on sale! If you are a vintage lover like I am and have never checked out this small independent label, I suggest you do.

5. This floral kimono really speaks to my more bohemian flower child side. It would be so pretty layered over a maxi dress or dressed down with a tank top and some jean shorts (paired with the moccasins above for a little bit of print mixing fun ;) ).

Happy hump day! I think I’m going to go try on that pencil skirt from Old Navy, since I’m pretty sure I got an email about a sale this morning :). What are you loving this week? I’d love to hear.

Truly,

Tamara
