Wednesday’s Love List 8-20-14

It’s that time again! It’s time for Wednesday’s Love List ;). So without further adieu, here is a list of some things I’m loving this week:

1-photo 1

1. I’m loving this adorable sweater from Ruche. Isn’t it the cutest? It would look equally as cute with jeans or a skirt.

2. I love this dress from Fleet Collection, an online clothing store I just discovered. They have such pretty vintage inspired clothes and I seriously want everything on their website!

3. It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Dear Creatures and I’m so excited that they just posted their fall collection on their website. It’s not for sale yet, but you can look at it here. My absolute favorite piece from this collection is this pale blue dress!

4. Since I’m not much of a heel wearing type of girl (I’m horribly awkward in them and much prefer to be comfortable), I’m always looking for a super cute pair of flats. This pair from Old Navy fits the bill perfectly.

5. This dress from Forever 21 speaks to the 70’s/bohemian side of me. I love the bell sleeves and lace detail on the back. It would look super cute with short boots or even layered over a pair of skinny jeans.

As usual, I would love to hear what you are loving this week. I’m always on the lookout for new things to be inspired by :).

Fit and Flare dresses are my favorite silhouette and if you could see my closet you would know that without me even telling you. If I could only wear one style of dress for the rest of my life this would be it. I love many other styles, but no other style flatters my pear shaped figure quite like a fit and flare dress. Fitted on the top where I could use some enhancement and flared out at the bottom to hide a multitude of sins. Perfection! ;) I also love the mid-century vibe that they inevitably give off. If I could have Betty Draper’s (or I guess it’s Francis now) wardrobe I would be one happy lady!

I just got this dress in the mail from Avenle, one of my new favorite online clothing stores. If you haven’t checked them out yet, then I suggest you do. They have so many cute vintage inspired things and if I had unlimited funds I would have ordered a lot more. This dress fits like a dream and is so comfortable. The material has a nice weight and stretch to it and best of all required no ironing straight out of the package (super exciting for me, as I can’t stand ironing and avoid it at all costs)! And of course, one of the most important things to me is that this dress will work well for all seasons. I’m excited to pair it with some tights and a cropped cardigan for the cooler months, but for now I’m happy to hang on to summer and bare legs a little bit longer.

I hope you all had a great weekend. Happy Monday!

Be Brave

Brave. I feel like it is a word I have been reading and hearing a lot lately (insert Sara Bareilles song here). I don’t know if being brave is just a popular and trendy subject matter right now, or if I am just noticing it because it’s something I’ve needed to hear. Either way, I think it is something worth talking about, for me anyway. But I can’t help thinking that this is true for women and girls in general. As much as I hate to admit it, I have always been a fearful person. It’s one of the things I dislike most about myself and that I still battle daily. Combine that with my perfectionist tendency’s and well, it’s a wonder I even get out of bed in the morning. Ok, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but I have a real fear of failure and I don’t know where it comes from. I mean, I come from a super loving family who supported anything I ever wanted to do. Maybe it’s society and it’s lower expectations for girls in general (although, thank goodness that is changing). Whatever the reason, over the years that fear has kept me from doing so many things, and If I think about it too much it makes me really sad. From the time I was 7 or 8 years old until I was a young adult, I rode horses and competed in horse shows. I loved horses (and still do) and had such a passion for riding, but I quit and threw it all away because of my fears. I know you aren’t supposed to have regrets and that things happen for a reason, but I can’t help but regret that. Even as an adult my fears have kept me from doing many things, because of them I almost didn’t even start this blog. I have been reading blogs for years and I have loved fashion since I can remember. For the last two years I have had this voice in my head telling me that I should be writing a personal style blog, and expressing myself creatively, but I didn’t listen (until 2 months ago). I was way too caught up in the thoughts in my head about what could go wrong. What if my blog doesn’t look creative or professional enough? What if I don’t have anything worthwhile to say? What if my pictures aren’t good enough? What if I’m too old? What if everyone hates it? What if I am not good enough? And that’s really just it, I was so scared that I wasn’t good enough and I hadn’t even tried! How stupid is that?! But I do that all the time, I talk myself out of things before I even try. Well, I’m sick of it and I’m not going to stand for it anymore! So starting this blog is the first step in the right direction. I am going to be brave and create something no matter how imperfect it may be. I am going to put myself out there and give myself the chance to fail, because at least that means I tried. To most of you, I’m sure it seems like no big deal to start a blog, but this is a huge leap for me and I’m so glad I took it. I have already been blessed in many ways and I hope that I can encourage anyone out there who want’s to take a leap (doing whatever their heart desires) to just jump. You can do so much more than you give yourself credit for and it’s not so scary once you do. Who knows, I might just start riding horses again too ;).

I bought this t-shirt from Zooey Magazine back in the winter when they were promoting their Brave Movement to help inspire women to go for their dreams. It’s a simple shirt with a powerful message, so when I decided to write this blog post I knew exactly what to wear. I styled it with this pencil skirt from Old Navy that I featured in my Wednesday’s Love List a few weeks ago. I must admit that for me, wearing a pencil skirt is kind of an act of bravery in itself since I have… ahem……a little junk in the trunk as they say ;). It’s not a silhouette that I normally wear, but I love it! I’m so glad that I took the chance and bought it. It is a nice thick material that provides a lot of stretch and sits high on your waist. I’m looking forward to styling it many different ways.

I know this post was kind of a long one, so if you hung in there, thank you. Do you deal with fear? If so, what are some ways you overcome that fear? I would love to hear your story. I still have a long way to go.

Wednesday’s Love List 8-13-14

As much as I hate to admit it, fall will be here soon. I actually love the fall, It’s just that I’m never ready for the summer to end. I do however, love the smell of crisp leaves, pumpkin spice lattes (pumpkin everything), Halloween and especially the clothes. I’m excited to start layering again with cozy sweaters, scarves, tights and boots. So for this weeks Wednesday’s Love List I thought I would share some pieces I’m currently loving that will easily transition from summer to fall.

1. Forever 21 has a lot of cute dresses right now and I especially love this one. I mean, it’s plaid AND has a Peter Pan collar. Enough said.

2. I love everything from Bait Footwear, but this pair of shoes would be perfect for any season and would go with everything.

Once it starts to get a little chilly out just add a cardigan and bright pair of tights and you have a perfect fall (or even winter) outfit!

3. I am loving this pretty, feminine sweater from Avenle. It works perfectly for cooler summer evenings or layered for the fall.

4. These super versatile boots from Target look just like Frye boots and are a great price for real leather. They also come in 2 other colors.

Just add some skinny jeans, a scarf and a jacket and you have an outfit ready for cooler weather.

5. I am absolutely in love with this dress from Ruche! I told you I was mad about plaid ;).

6. I adore Seychelles shoes and although this pair from Modcloth is a little pricey for me, I know that I would wear them for years to come.

Layer the dress with a cardigan or a jean jacket and you have a lovely fall ensemble :).

What about you? What are some great pieces that you either have in your closet or want to buy that help you transition from summer to fall? I hope you are having a great week so far!

As you can probably already tell by most of my outfit posts, I am a dress wearing kinda gal. Dresses are easy for me, they are what I am most comfortable in and feel most like myself when I am wearing them. That being said, I do wear other things. So for the sake of showing a more well rounded style, I decided to style a pair of jeans……..with a dress! Ha Ha, I can’t help myself! ;) If I’m being completely honest though, I’m not exactly sure about the final look. Do you ever look in the mirror and think you look great and then see pictures of yourself later in the exact same outfit and wonder what you were thinking? That’s kind of what happened to me with this outfit when I was editing the photos. I mean, I don’t hate it, I just don’t feel like myself. I love the dress and I love the boots, I’m just not so sure about the jeans with them. Oh well, I tried and will continue to try things outside of my comfort zone. Maybe I’ll get really crazy and wear the jeans with just a regular old shirt next time! ;)

I hope you all had a great weekend! They are just never long enough, are they? Aaron and I went out on Saturday night and enjoyed the beautiful weather we had here in Michigan. It’s crazy to think that it will be fall soon enough and I’m just not ready for it yet. And we all know what comes after the fall….Ugh! I can’t even let myself think about that! So come on summer, hang around a little while longer, will ya?

I love the simplicity of this chambray dress I bought from Target a few years ago. There are endless ways you could style it, but for this look I decided to keep it simple. Most of the time when I’m putting an outfit together I plan the accessories around the clothes, but not this time. My dear talented friend Heather made this beautiful necklace and earrings, and I really wanted to wear something that would show them off and allow them to shine. The strapless neckline and light chambray color of this dress did just that. Aren’t they lovely?

I have had a very busy week and am definitely ready for the weekend. I’m hoping to get out and have a little fun! Whether you are relaxing or on the go, I hope you have a great one! :)

The color and floral details on this dress always make me feel like I should be going to a garden party, so I figured the perfect place to go for pictures was the Henry Ford Estate. The Henry Ford Estate was the home of Clara and Henry Ford from 1915 to 1950 and has the most beautiful grounds, especially the flower gardens. As an angsty teenager I would often go and walk the grounds to contemplate whatever drama was going on in my life. There are so many pretty, quiet places to go sit and think or read a book. This past Friday evening we finally had a break in the rainy weather and Aaron and I decided to go walk around and snap some pictures. No angst involved on this visit ;).

I bought this dress from JCPenny a few years ago and I still love it as much as the day I bought it. Who knew I would find such a cute vintage looking dress at JCPenny?! Just goes to show that you never know where your next great fashion find will come from. You definitely need to keep and open mind and be willing to look anywhere. Although, I do think that JCPenny has really stepped up it’s game in the last few years. This dress doesn’t need a lot of accessories, it has a lot going on all on it’s own. I just added some cute hand made earrings, a simple necklace and my trusty clogs.

How about you, have you ever found great clothes in unlikely places? I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far!

I truly am mad about plaid! Ever since I was a little girl I have loved plaid everything. It’s so classic and never really goes out of style. As soon as I saw this red plaid fit and flare dress from Modcloth I knew I had to have it. It’s my favorite color, pattern, and style all rolled into one! What’s not to love? I bought it in the winter and styled it with a cardigan and tights, but I was anxious to wear it in the summer to show off these cute sleeves. I mean, these little puffed cap sleeves really should be seen ;).

Here we are again, it’s Friday already. Where does the time go?! I have a pretty busy weekend planned and I hope to get a lot accomplished, so no relaxing for me. I hope you all have a lovely weekend! :)

Wednesday’s Love List 7-30-14

1-wed love list collage 1

Here’s a look at what I’m loving this week:

1. I’m really into jumpsuits/rompers lately and this jumpsuit from Modcloth
is super cute!

2. One of my favorite books illustrated by Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. She also illustrated Little Women, Heidi, and A Little Princess. They are so gorgeous and I want them all!

3. This midi dress is very on trend and would be a perfect piece for layering in the fall/winter. Also, you can’t really beat the price.

1-wed love list collage 2

4. I love this skirt from Avenle, an adorable online boutique I recently discovered. It is named after my above mentioned favorite book, so of course I immediately fell in love with this cute little shop ;).

5. I’m loving this romper from Sosie. The color and pattern could easily transition from day to night.

Also loving:

– Another funny, yet inspiring episode of Marie TV! A must watch if you are an entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur.

I hope you are all having a lovely week so far! We are having an abnormally cold and rainy week here in Michigan, so I’m just hoping we get to see and feel the sun again soon. As always, I would love to hear what you are loving this week!

The 90’s was my decade and I’m really loving the return of 90’s fashion. I mean, I still watch My So-Called Life and wish I could be Angela Chase, which could have something to do with Jordan Catalano….. but I digress ;). I’m pretty sure I owned a baby doll dress almost exactly like this one back in high school! Just add a jean jacket and some black oxfords and I guess you would call this look retro. Wow, does that make me feel old! I bought this dress from Forever 21 at the beginning of summer and I have worn it a lot. It’s super soft and lightweight, which makes it perfect for warmer weather. Pair it with tights, boots, and a jacket and it works for fall/winter too. I sure hope this is a trend that sticks around for a while longer :).

I had a very productive weekend. I cleaned house and actually went grocery shopping on Saturday! Something I usually avoid at all costs, because I HATE grocery shopping! I’m a horrible meal planner, so I just end up standing there staring at the shelves until I ultimately buy a bunch of random things. I guess I’m an ok cook, but I do not enjoy it like some people do. The whole process is a necessary evil as far as I’m concerned, because we do have to eat after all. Although I would be just fine with going out to eat everyday if it wasn’t so expensive ;). Anyway, enough about grocery shopping! My good friend Heather came over yesterday and we talked for hours about some exciting things that we are working on together. I’m really looking forward to what the future holds and finally feel like I am starting to head down the right path. I can’t wait until I can share more about this with all of you! So all in all, I would say it was a pretty great weekend. I hope yours was too!
