Wednesday’s Love List – Avenle Fall Favorites

Over the next few weeks I will be featuring my fall picks from some of my favorite stores and on-line shops, these are stores that I personally love and shop at regularly.

For today’s edition of Wednesday’s Love List, I am featuring some of my fall favorites from one of my favorite online boutiques, Avenle. Their clothes are the perfect mix of modern, vintage, and boho, so they really have something for everybody. Avenle also happens to be owned by some of the sweetest girls in the business, who truly take customer service and the on-line shopping experience to the next level. Plus, it is named after one of my favorite books, which makes me love them even more ;). Any other Anne of Green Gables fans out there?

1-Avenle Fall Favorites 1

1. This dress is the perfect fall floral and would be so cute with a long cardigan and some ankle booties.

2. I love all of the details on this dress, and would wear it with bright tights for a pop of color.

1-Avenle Fall Favorites 2

3. I am absolutely in love with this plaid blazer! This is such a versatile fall piece and could be paired with jeans, a skirt, or layered over a dress. It reminds me of my horseback riding days ;).

4. This lovely marigold skirt has a vintage look that I love, and would be perfect paired with a feminine blouse.

1-Avenle Fall Favorites 3

5. This gorgeous peplum sweater would go with pretty much anything, and would easily transition into next spring.

6. The back of this top is adorable, I’m especially loving the elbow patches! Just add some skinny jeans with boots or flats and you have the perfect weekend outfit! :)

I hope you all are having a great week so far! We are having the most gorgeous weather here in Michigan, so I’m a happy girl :).

Truly,

Tamara

This past Saturday was really warm and humid, it felt like summer was taking it’s last breath before fall officially took over. It was nice to get out and enjoy the day and say my final goodbyes. Oh summer, I will miss you so! So today, on the official first day of fall, I thought I would post one last summer look.

I bought this dress from Ruche this past spring and it is such a shame that I haven’t worn it until now. It was too long on me and had to be altered, I kept putting off having it done until just a few weeks ago. I absolutely love this dress! The floral pattern feels very vintage to me and I’m in love with the cutout details on the side and in the back. Since you can see your bra (and I’m not willing to go braless), I wore a cute lace bralette and didn’t mind that you could see it. I gave a bit of a nod to fall by adding these super cute vintage looking boots and my denim vest (which I barely wore because it was so hot). And of course I finished off the look with lovely earrings from Moxie Boutique ;). I am determined to find ways to style this dress for fall, as I refuse to have this be the only time I wear this gorgeous dress until next year.

I hope all of you enjoyed your last weekend of summer! And for those of you going into summer,……. well lucky you ;).

Truly,

Tamara

I’m so excited to finally share a project that I have been working on with my dear friend Heather! Heather and I met when we worked together at a hair salon almost thirteen years ago and we have been close friends ever since. Not only is she a great friend, she is also one of the most talented people I know. She makes beautiful beaded jewelry and over the years has sold it to friends, family and even clients at the salon we worked at. For years I have tried to get her to sell her jewelry online, but with a full time job she was just too busy to do all that was necessary to run an online shop. It just seemed like a shame that she was not sharing her talent for others to enjoy, so a few months ago I came to her with a business proposal. I would take care of the business side of things like photographing, listing, shipping, etc. and she could focus on the creative side. Around the same time, I started this blog and thought it just made sense to put the two together. That is when we opened our Etsy shop and Moxie Boutique was born. You will be seeing a lot of her lovely jewelry, along with some super cute vintage-inspired hair accessories made by her mom Beverly, styled here on my blog. I’m so excited to share all of the gorgeous pieces that she has made! In celebration of our shop opening we will be doing a giveaway here on Truly, Tamara in the next few weeks, so be on the lookout for it! Also follow Moxie Boutique on Instagram and Facebook so that you don’t miss new items being added to the shop, sales, or future giveaways. Any support you can give would mean the world to us and we are so excited to share Moxie Boutique with you! :)

This “skirt” is actually one of my Dear Creatures dresses from their fall line last year. Since it was a little chilly outside on the day we took these photos, I decided to dress it down and make it a little more weather appropriate with a chambray shirt layered over it and combat boots. I love the mix of dressier, more feminine pieces with edgier, more masculine pieces. This is a very lovely dress on it’s own, so I promise to style it again so that you can see the whole dress and it’s cute little bow next time.

Truly,

Tamara

Falling for Gingham

1-Gingham Dress #4

1-Moccasins

Hey everyone, I’m back! After a really bad storm hit last week we were out of power for a few days and it really threw my whole week off. So I decided to take the week and hit the re-set button to get my life together and work on a few other projects I have going on. I will be sharing more about that on Friday ;).

With temperatures being in the 60s during the day and falling into the 40s at night, this weekend in Michigan definitely felt like fall. It was the first time I really wanted to style an outfit that felt distinctly fall and this gingham dress from Old Navy was exactly what I was looking for. I featured this dress in the last Wednesday’s Love List and I received it in the mail shortly after. I was worried that it may not fit me, because drop waist dresses don’t always work for my body type, but I was in luck this time. It is so soft and comfortable and fits really well. Now I can truly say that I love it! ;). I can’t wait to style it with tights, boots and maybe even a blazer. With it’s classic gingham print, this is a dress that I know I will get a lot of wear out of for years to come. This time I paired it with a fedora I bought from Target last year and my Minnetonka moccasins, which always feel very fall to me. I love hats, but ever since I cut my hair really short I have felt like I can’t wear them. Every time I would put one on I felt like a boy, because you really couldn’t even see my hair. Now that my hair has grown out a little I feel like I can wear them again, so I think I will be keeping my hair a little on the longer side for a while.

This past weekend was crazy busy filled with yard work, photography sessions, shopping and a baby shower. I’m not gonna lie, it was all I could do to get this blog post up today and I think I see a nap in my near future ;). How about you, did you have a good weekend? I’d love to hear about it!

Truly,

Tamara

Ok, so I’m not going back to school and thank goodness for that! Lets just say that I didn’t exactly love school and I still sometimes have nightmares that it’s the end of the semester and I still don’t have any of my assignments done. The one thing I do miss though, is the back to school shopping. I have very fond memories of going shopping at Hudson’s with my mom, it’s the one thing that made the idea of going back to school bearable for me. I remember planning the outfit that I would wear on the first day of school like it was the most important thing in the world. I’m so thankful that I have a mom who let me be myself and wear pretty much whatever I wanted as long as it was within the dress code of my private school (which could sometimes be a bit limiting to a budding fashionista). Even though I’m an adult now and my school days are long gone, I think I should still be able to go “back to school” shopping around this time of year. Just as it eased the pain of the looming school year for me, new sweaters and boots will ease the pain of the impending winter ;).

It seemed appropriate to wear this jumper from ModCloth on the day that most kids go back to school. It reminds me of a school uniform in the very best way and I love it. I paired it with these Bass saddle shoes I scored from an eBay auction to give it even more of a preppy schoolgirl look. Now I just need to get a chic leather backpack and I’ll be ready to hit the books. Only this time, I get to choose what to read! ;).

Truly,

Tamara

Wednesday’s Love List 9-3-14

After taking Monday off and enjoying the long weekend, I’m back with Wednesday’s Love List :). It comes as no surprise that most of the items in this weeks list are dresses, because well, that’s what I love. I usually try to come up with a variety of pieces, but at the end of the day this weekly feature is about what I’m currently loving and I have to stay true to that. Maybe I should just change the title to Wednesday’s dresses and Peter Pan collars! ;)

1-Desktop9

1. I love the square neckline and ruched sleeves on this dress from Ruche.

2. The oversized Peter Pan collar gives this skirt and top set, from Emerging Thoughts, a major 60s vibe.

1-Desktop10

3. I saw this dress on Elizabeth from Delightfully Tacky and was immediately obsessed. How cute is this print?!

4. I’m in love with this gingham dress from Old Navy, so much so that I might have already ordered it ;). This black and red gingham print reminds me of a pair of pants I had from Gap in the 90s.

1-1-Screen Shot 2014-09-02 at 3.15.40 PM

5. These shoes from Bait Footwear remind me so much of Dorothy’s ruby slippers. They also come in a beautiful cobalt blue color. I think I need both ;).

I hope you all had a lovely Labor Day weekend. It’s time to officially bring on the fall!

Truly,

Tamara

Orange is probably my least favorite color, but when I saw that Modcloth had my favorite skirt in other colors I had to get every single one, including this orange one. I’m really glad that I did too, because as it turns out I really like this color on me. It just goes to show that you have to be open to trying new things, because you never really know if you’ll like it unless you give it a try. I really love the midi skirt trend, it feels very 1950s to me. I have tried countless other midi skirts and this one has been my favorite by far. Some of them tend to be pretty pouffy and well, my pear shaped figure has enough pouf ;). This skirt has just the right amount of volume while still being flattering. There is still a mustard colored one that I have yet to get, but don’t worry, I’ll get you my pretty ;).

Aaron and I went to our local park again to take pictures and we saw the sweetest little frog (you can see him in the last picture). I really wanted to bring him home with us, but Aaron didn’t think he would be too happy. He’s probably right, but he sure was cute :).

I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! It’s extra special for us, because our fur babies, Brutus & Diesel, turn 3 on Monday. And yes, I’m one of those people who celebrate their dogs’ birthdays ;).

Truly,

Tamara

Wednesday’s Love List 8-27-14

By the looks of this weeks Wednesday’s Love list I’m starting to accept the fact that fall is coming. I find myself more and more drawn to pieces that will help me transition into the colder months. Maybe it’s the return of the pumpkin spice latte that has helped to ease the pain of summer coming to a close ;).

1-Wednesday's Love List 8-27-14 #2

1. I love this quilted top and skirt from Target. Pair them with tights and oxfords for a cute preppy look.

2. This is such a pretty boho dress from Avenle. Just add a cardigan and some ankle boots to make it more fall appropriate.

1-Wednesday's Love List 8-27-14 #1

3. Are you shocked that I’m in love with this blouse from Forever 21? Of course not, it has a Peter Pan collar! ;)

4. I absolutely adore this felt hat from Old Navy. It also comes in a pretty wine color.

This blouse and hat would pair perfectly together with jeans for a more casual look or dressed up with a skirt.

1-Wednesday's Love List 8-27-14 #3

5. These slim jogger pants from target would be perfect for running errands, while still looking cute.

6. I’m really loving all of Old Navy’s graphic tees lately. They are super versatile and would look equally as cute with the above jogger pants or with a blazer and a skirt for a more polished look.

I have been looking for more casual, but still stylish pieces for days when I don’t feel like dressing up. These two pieces fit the bill perfectly. I would just throw on a pair of Converse sneakers and be ready to go grocery shopping :).

I hope you are all having a lovely week so far.

Truly,

Tamara

For some reason this dress gives me major sailor vibes, I guess it must be the collar. It’s actually from Dear Creatures fall line last year, but it feels very summery to me. I kept the styling very simple to let the dress shine on it’s own. Last winter I paired this dress with tights and a cardigan, but it seemed a shame not to see the sleeves and the back of this collar. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m in love with everything Dear Creatures makes. Their clothes are vintage inspired, but with a modern touch and a great attention to detail. I’m so excited for this years fall line to come out! It’s not for sale yet, but you can see it on their website. As usual they did not disappoint and I want every single piece.

We had a really nice and relaxing weekend. We spent time with family, did some yard work and then Aaron and I went to the park to enjoy these final days of summer. I’m so sad to see it go, but excited to see what fall will bring. I keep trying to remind myself that change is good and that every season brings something new to enjoy. I hope you had a lovely weekend as well :).

Truly,

Tamara

My sister and I are super close, but we could not be more different people. In truth, she’s the better sister. She is a very patient and tolerant person, with one of the kindest souls I’ve ever known. I, on the other hand, am the sister with the fiery personality (no wonder my favorite color is red) and a stubborn streak. On top of our personality differences, our styles could not be more different. She leans toward more simple and classic pieces, while I have always loved trends and taking more risks. As I’m getting older I am definitely developing a taste for more classic pieces, but I think I will always have a little bit of a risk taker in me. As a child and a teenager, I loved looking different than everybody else in school and was never bothered that I didn’t quite fit in style wise. I think that is something that will always be a part of me. If I like it, I wear it.

I was on the phone with my sister the other night and sent her one of these pictures to see what she thought of my outfit, and guess what? She didn’t like it! She kept calling this crochet bow a “red puffy bow”, which of course infuriated me. Also, she didn’t like that the reds were not exactly the same shade (I am not always a matchy matchy kind of girl). This really threw her for a loop! When I got off the phone with her I started to have a ton of self doubt about posting this outfit, which is very unusual for me. The one thing I always have been confident in is my sense of style, so why was I letting this get to me (pms and lack of sleep was not helping)? This blog is meant to be a place to share MY personal style. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll look back and wonder why in the world I wore this “red puffy bow” and that’s ok, because at least I was being true to who I was at the time.

I say all of this, not to bash my sister (we all have opinions), but to show how different we all are. I encourage you to stay true to yourself no matter what others opinions might be. Even I slip up and doubt my sense of style once in a while, but I usually come around and stay true to myself. I love this fun, casual and kind of cutesy look. So here it is, sister! Me and my “red puffy bow”! :)

Truly,

Tamara
