The 90’s was my decade and I’m really loving the return of 90’s fashion. I mean, I still watch My So-Called Life and wish I could be Angela Chase, which could have something to do with Jordan Catalano….. but I digress ;). I’m pretty sure I owned a baby doll dress almost exactly like this one back in high school! Just add a jean jacket and some black oxfords and I guess you would call this look retro. Wow, does that make me feel old! I bought this dress from Forever 21 at the beginning of summer and I have worn it a lot. It’s super soft and lightweight, which makes it perfect for warmer weather. Pair it with tights, boots, and a jacket and it works for fall/winter too. I sure hope this is a trend that sticks around for a while longer :).

I had a very productive weekend. I cleaned house and actually went grocery shopping on Saturday! Something I usually avoid at all costs, because I HATE grocery shopping! I’m a horrible meal planner, so I just end up standing there staring at the shelves until I ultimately buy a bunch of random things. I guess I’m an ok cook, but I do not enjoy it like some people do. The whole process is a necessary evil as far as I’m concerned, because we do have to eat after all. Although I would be just fine with going out to eat everyday if it wasn’t so expensive ;). Anyway, enough about grocery shopping! My good friend Heather came over yesterday and we talked for hours about some exciting things that we are working on together. I’m really looking forward to what the future holds and finally feel like I am starting to head down the right path. I can’t wait until I can share more about this with all of you! So all in all, I would say it was a pretty great weekend. I hope yours was too!

Truly,

Tamara

Nautical accessories

I bought this dress from Target last year to wear for the 4th of July and I almost forgot about it! I love the nautical vibe and the strapless style that make it perfect for hot summer days. Just layer with a cute cropped cardigan and you are good to go for the air conditioned indoors. I am always cold, so I usually need some sort of sweater or jacket. This cropped cardigan from Modcloth was exactly what I had been looking for to layer with all of my fit and flare dresses. I have it in a few different colors and it has become another year round staple in my wardrobe. I don’t know why, but I have found it hard to find cropped cardigans in stores, so as with so many other things Modcloth has been my go to on-line source. Let me know in the comments below if you know of any other places that carry them in store for a reasonable price. My Saltwater sandals have become my favorite summer shoes. They are crazy comfortable and have a super cute retro look! They come in a ton of different colors and I want all of them (obviously). I’m sure you will be seeing them featured in many different outfit posts this summer and for many summers to come ;).

I have some exciting things in the works that hopefully I will be able to share with you all soon! Happy Monday and I hope you have a great week! :)

Truly,

Tamara

I don’t own a lot of skirts, I’m more of a dress kinda gal, but I bought this skirt from Modcloth a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I love it so much that I ended up buying it in 3 other colors! It has the mid-century vibe that I find myself continuously drawn to with the added bonus of being super comfortable. I also love how versatile it is. One of the main things I think about when buying new clothes is the versatility of the item. Can I wear it in the winter or summer? Can I dress it up or down? I don’t like limiting my clothes to one season or occasion. I like to challenge myself to come up with many different ways to wear an article of clothing. For this look I decided to go a little more casual than I usually do. I paired the skirt with my Converse and a cute T-shirt (I don’t often wear T-shirts, but I really loved the message on this one) and finished it off by adding a red belt and earrings for a pop of color. This outfit would be perfect for a night at the movies or even a game of mini golf, don’t you think?

I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend! :)

Truly,

Tamara

I had so much to do this weekend, but unfortunately I was sick on Friday night and all day Saturday. Thank goodness I was feeling a little better on Sunday, so that I could get a few things accomplished. I’m still so behind though and I’m sure I will be playing catch up all week. At least I got to have a little fun on Sunday afternoon. Aaron and I went to a local art fair in one of my favorite cities, Plymouth. It has such a quaint small town feel that I love and we really hope to call it home one day (fingers crossed). We just walked around a little and went to lunch, it was nice to get out after being in bed for almost two days. On Sunday evening we finally got around to taking some outfit photos at a local bed and breakfast owned by some friends of Aaron’s. It has a beautiful backyard that I thought would make a perfect backdrop.

I bought this yellow floral midi dress from Ruche, one of my absolute favorite online stores. They have so many cute vintage inspired pieces and this dress is no exception. I love the vintage looking print, the back details and the ladylike length. I layered it with a white tube top underneath to make it a little more wearable for everyday, but the open back would be beautiful for a fancier occasion. You could definitely dress it up or down depending on how you accessorize.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and got a lot more accomplished than I did. Here’s to a new and healthy week! ;)

Truly,

Tamara

For the Love of Peter Pan Collars

Oh how I love a Peter Pan collar! I was definitely born in the wrong era when it comes to fashion. I always gravitate towards mid-century style, a time when fashion icons like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn reigned supreme. Even though the style dates back to the early 1900’s, it was at it’s peek in the 50’s and 60’s. We have been seeing a definite resurgence again in the last couple of years and I could not be more smitten. I would wear one everyday if I could! Ok, maybe not everyday, but you get the point, I’m kind of obsessed. Just take a look at my Style Inspiration board on Pinterest. I also love mixing era’s and I really love the combination of this 90’s style baby doll dress with the Peter Pan collared blouse. I look forward to finding more ways to style this versatile piece.

Aaron and I went to a local park again to take these photos and we forgot something very important…….BUG SPRAY!!! We went later in the evening in an effort to have the best lighting, but didn’t take the mosquito situation into account. Normally we take a ton of pictures (and I do mean a ton), but this time we snapped as many as we could in a super short amount of time and got out of there as fast as we could. This left me with a much smaller amount of usable pictures (most of the pictures were of me warding off mosquitos) to choose from, but it definitely helped me to hone my editing skills ;) . We certainly won’t be making that mistake again!

I can’t believe that the 4th of July has already come and gone! I don’t know about you guys, but I always feel like after the 4th is over the rest of the summer just flies by. I sure hope that’s not the case this year and I plan on savoring ever last drop of summer. I had a very low key 4th of July weekend. We had dinner with family, rearranged the house a little and relaxed a lot. I hope you all had a lovely weekend too!

Truly,

Tamara

On Saturday Aaron and I went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. It was really nice to have an excuse to get a little dressed up and go out on a date. It’s been a while since we’ve done that and I have really missed it. Afterwards we went to a nearby park located on the Detroit river and walked around for a little while. It was a beautiful evening and the perfect time to snap a few pictures. I think Aaron is getting pretty good at it, don’t you?

This is another dress that I bought in early spring and am just getting around to wearing. I guess I was waiting for the perfect occasion. I love that you can dress it up or down, just swap out the heels for flats, sandals or even boots, and add more casual pieces like a denim jacket and a bigger handbag. I especially like the cutout detail on the back. I ordered it online from Target, although I think they carried it in the stores too. Online shopping is such a dangerous thing for me! It can get out of control really fast! ;) You’ll find that A LOT of my clothes are from Target. It’s inexpensive and they usually have really cute styles, that’s a win-win in my book. Plus, it seems like I’m there for one reason or another at least 2 times a week. These clog sandals were a bit of a splurge for me, but I love them so. I know that they will be a staple in my closet for years to come, so it was worth it. I don’t wear heels that often (even though I love the way they look) because they are so uncomfortable, but these are the exception. What about you, is there anything you have splurged on lately?

Truly,

Tamara

Hello Blogging World!

I am new to the world of blogging. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but put off. It’s hard to put yourself out there; to work so hard on something that you believe in with the hopes that it will find an audience and be well received. There is a fear of being not good enough and insecurities that come from comparing ourselves to others. But I finally took the plunge! I realize that I have something to offer and that no one else is exactly like me. I have loved fashion ever since I can remember; putting an outfit together and styling it has been a creative outlet for me. So why not share that? Maybe, just maybe, it will inspire someone else. When I was in high school I thought that I would end up in the fashion industry doing merchandising or being a personal stylist. Well, life doesn’t always go exactly as planned, and here I am. So I am going to use this space to pursue those dreams in a reimagined way. Clothes can make you feel good and are a great outlet for self-expression, but they don’t have to break the bank. I bet most of us have a closet full of clothes (I know I do!) that can be styled in a way to make them seem new again. I hope that I can inspire others to work with what they have and to be the best version of themselves.

Aaron and I went to a local park over the weekend to take pictures for this post and I learned something….posing for pictures is hard! I am obviously not a model, nor am I trying to be, but I have a new respect for them. It gets difficult trying to come up with different poses while still trying to look natural and show off the clothes (which is the whole point). It doesn’t help that I, like most women, am so self-critical! Aaron must have taken at least 100 pictures (thank goodness he’s so patient!) and the pictures I like the best are the candids – when I didn’t realize he was taking the picture and was often laughing at myself. I just felt so ridiculous and it certainly didn’t help when other people were around. I guess practice makes perfect and hopefully it will get easier with time. Until then I will continue to laugh at myself and have fun doing it.

I bought this kimono style maxi dress from Forever 21 at least two months ago and this is the first time I’ve worn it. I can already tell that I will wear it a lot, because it is so comfortable and easy to accessorize. The floral print is so bold that you really don’t need to add much to it, so I just kept it really simple. I don’t know about you guys, but I am loving all of the floral prints that are so popular right now! After all, I was a teenager in the 90’s so I guess I have a soft spot for them. How do you feel about floral prints, are you loving them too?

Truly,

Tamara
