Off The Shoulder Dresses and Sunflower Fields

Well I finally did it, I gave in and tried the off the shoulder trend that has been running rampant through the fashion world lately. When I first started noticing this trend, I really liked it, but wasn’t sure I could pull it off. I’m getting to the point in my life where I’m starting to question if I’m getting too old for certain fashion trends and this was one of them. I really hate feeling this way, because I’ve always been someone who has said, “If you like it, wear it!”. Why does it matter how old we are? If we feel comfortable wearing a certain style then we should wear it. As women it is so hard not to conform to what society thinks we should look like or what we should be wearing at a certain age. I hate that I worry about what people think of me and how I look! I never used to be this way, but for some reason the older I get, the more these insecurities have started to pop up. This is such a new and foreign feeling for me and I’ve decided to fight against it. I refuse to let my age become such a part of my identity that I let it hold me back from doing or wearing anything. I have to constantly remind myself that my identity and self worth has nothing to do with what I look like or what I wear. As someone who loves fashion, this is very easy to lose sight of and it’s something I struggle with and pray about every single day. So the best way I know to fight back against these insecurities is to take my own advice and just keep wearing what I like……….And I really like this off the shoulder dress! You better watch out, you’re probably going to be seeing a lot more of my shoulders around here! ;)

Isn’t this sunflower field gorgeous?! It’s kind of sad because it’s so close to my house, but I always forget about it. Thankfully a friend reminded me about it this year and I was able to get these pictures before they stopped blooming. Looking at this field of sunflowers made me think of Matthew 6:26-28: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers in the field grow. They do not labor or spin.” This is such a beautiful reminder to let go of the worry and anxiety that so easily creeps in. God loves you and he’s got this! :)

Tobi // Part 3

Hey friends, today I am back with the last post of a three part series in collaboration with Tobi. Something about this shift dress drew me to it and I just love how light and feminine it is. I love to take an ultra feminine dress and give it a little edge, so I added these brown engineer boots that ended up giving the look a little more of a western vibe. I decided to embrace the more western feel and accessorize with this fringe pendant necklace and added one of my favorite bags to complete the look. The light neutral color of this dress really gives you unlimited options of how it can be styled. Next time I think I will play up the femininity a little more by adding some heels and more color.

Can we just talk about these engineer boots from Target for a second?! They are a total knock off of the Frye harness boots for just a fraction of the cost! They are real leather and for the price I couldn’t be happier with them. If you’ve been wanting the Frye boots, but just can’t justify the cost, I highly suggest you give these a try.

How is it Monday again?! I always feel so old when I say things like that, but seriously, where does the time go? I’m praying that this week slows down just a little and that we can get outside and start enjoying this beautiful fall weather we have been having. I think it’s about time for our annual visit to the cider mill, cider and donuts are calling my name! ;) What fall activities are you looking forward to?

Winter Is Coming

Today is an exciting day friends! It is launch day for Noonday Collection’s winter line and I’m so happy to be able to finally share it with you! All of these beautiful cozy knit pieces are made out of soft alpaca blend yarns by our artisan partners in Peru. For centuries alpaca wool has been used to keep the Peruvian people warm and that tradition is being brought to you in these gorgeous handmade knits that will be sure to keep you warm and cozy all winter long. My absolute favorite piece from this line is this beautiful Sageflower Shawl! I love this sage green that we seem to be seeing everywhere right now, it is a really neutral color that will go with so much this season. I am one of those girls who is always cold, so I know this piece will be a wardrobe staple during our ridiculously long Michigan winter. At least I can be warm and look cute at the same time! ;)

There are so many other cute things and this year they have added some Christmas items, including a set of adorable ornaments that have been hand-stitched in countries around the world! I don’t know about you, but I love having ornaments on my Christmas tree that I know helped to create dignified jobs in vulnerable communities. Loving others just as Jesus loves us, isn’t that the whole point of this upcoming holiday season? All of these items really are the gifts that keep on giving. Some of my other favorites pieces are pictured below, including that gorgeous leather crossbody bag! You can shop the entire Winter line here.

Tobi // Part 2

Today I am back with the second look from my collaboration with Tobi and this dress stood out to me the most when I first perused their website. I think it is the classic simplicity of this shirt dress that drew me to it and I immediately began thinking about all the ways it can be styled. It is a very lightweight rayon that drapes really nicely and is the perfect transition piece from summer to fall. The hi-low hem adds some interest and I added a belt to dress it up and give it a little more shape. In this look I decided to style it more for fall by wearing it with tall boots, but it would look equally as cute with sandals for a late summer evening out. I plan on adding some tights when it gets colder and wearing it all throughout the winter too. Navy blue is so popular right now and I’m so glad it is, because sometimes I don’t think it gets the love it deserves. People can be really funny about pairing navy with black and I’ve never understood it. As far as I’m concerned both are neutral colors and go perfectly together. I just think it creates such a classy timeless look! So if you’re one of those people, give it a try, you won’t be sorry.

I had such a lovely weekend and spent yesterday exploring a local vintage market with my parents. I just love antiques, shabby chic anything, and vintage clothes! I always think about the past that they’ve had and the stories attached to them. I didn’t end up buying anything, but it was a beautiful day to walk around and be inspired. Today we woke up to a dreary rainy day and I’m not really mad about it. We have had such beautiful weather lately, but sometimes it’s nice when the weather slows us down and gives us an excuse to stay indoors and cozy up with a with a good book. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Tobi // Part 1

Happy Monday, Friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Today I am partnering with to bring you the first in a series of 3 looks. Tobi is a Los Angeles based online fashion label that designs and develops all of their products and collections out of their headquarters in downtown L.A. While I am definitely not the quintessential L.A. girl, I appreciate the laid back simplicity of many of their pieces. Of course I chose to style 3 different dresses and I’m loving putting together some fun fall looks! In addition to the cool casual vibe of the clothes, what really struck me upon first checking out their website was the Tobi Cares program. With this charitable effort they contribute time and money to those in need through scholarships, donations, sponsorships and volunteering. It makes me happy to see brands and labels like Tobi giving back and making a positive impact on our communities. You can read more about Tobi here.

My first look is styled around this adorable blush swing dress. While pink is not a color I’m always drawn to, there is just something about this shade of pink that reads fall to me. If you have read my posts in the past, you know that versatility is important to me and I can see this dress working equally well in warm or cool temperatures. Just add or subtract some layers and you are good to go! I also love the added button detail and the sheer shoulders and back that add some interest to this simple, yet very versatile dress.

We have still been having pretty warm days here in Michigan, but I know fall weather is just around the corner. Over this past week I got all of my fall boots out from the back of my closet and I have to say that I think I’m jumping on the bandwagon and am getting so excited to be transitioning to fall clothes! I know I’m not alone. What fall clothing items are you most excited to start wearing again? Leave me a comment below, I’d love to hear!

Life Lately

Hello friends, it’s been awhile! I initially took a break from blogging last summer because we had put our house up for sale and were super busy dealing with everything that comes along with that, but for many reasons it turned out to be a really hard summer for me and I just never started up again. I’ve changed a lot since then and have been feeling called to start blogging again. One of the biggest changes has been my renewed relationship and faith in God. It has completely reshaped who I am and how I approach life now. I grew up in a Christian home, but in my late teens I strayed from my faith and tried to forge my own path. That didn’t go so well! For years as I struggled to control my life, I felt hopeless. God had a plan though (as He always does), and when I reached my breaking point I found my way back Home. One day I’ll share my whole story, but for today I’ll just explain how this big change in my life has slightly shifted the focus of the blog. Truly, Tamara will always be about fashion and personal style, I now understand that it’s a passion God has given me to help women feel good in their own skin and to love the body He has given them. I love styling and encouraging women to step out of their comfort zones and try something new. It’s amazing how clothes can transform your mood and make you feel beautiful inside and out. It’s something I’m still trying to figure out too, but it will be fun to do it together.

I had been looking for a way to combine my love of fashion, while giving back and making a difference in the world, when I first heard about Noonday Collection. After hearing an interview with the founder, Jessica Honegger, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for and became an independant ambassador. Noonday Collection partners with talented artisan entrepreneurs to make a difference in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. By developing artisan businesses through fair trade, they empower them to grow sustainably and to create dignified jobs for people who need them. I’m sure you will be seeing a lot of Noonday Collection popping up around here and I’m so excited to style outfits around all of the beautiful handmade pieces. I’m so proud to be a part of a company that’s building a flourishing world where children are cherished, women are empowered, people have jobs and we are connected. Email me me if you are interested in finding out more about this amazing company or if you are interested in partnering with me by hosting a trunk show!

Another thing I am so passionate about is empowering women and supporting them through small business. It makes me so happy to see other women taking chances and following their dreams! I hope that by partnering with small businesses through this blog, I can be a small part of helping them succeed and grow. One of my favorite local Michigan boutiques that I recently stumbled upon is Dallas & Dottie Boutique. The owner, Lindsay, is one of the sweetest girls I have ever met and she does such an amazing job curating a beautiful collection of clothing and accessories. When I saw this beautiful fall floral tunic dress I just knew I had to have it! It is totally on trend in this seasons petrol blue color and I just love it’s comfortable flowy fit. I’m so happy to support Lindsay and watch Dallas & Dottie Boutique continue to soar. Make sure you check out Dallas & Dottie on Facebook and Instagram too!

I have so much more to share in the coming weeks, but for now I’m just happy to be back. Happy Monday and I hope you have a lovely week!

There’s No Place Like Home

“There’s no place like home”…. When I came up with the title of this blog post, it had everything to do with the outfit and these adorable shoes that look exactly like Dorothy’s ruby slippers, but the more I thought about this iconic movie quote, the more I realized how much it rings true in my own life. We were just talking to some family friends the other day and one of my best friends mom was remembering how I never wanted to spend the night at their house, but I always wanted my friend to spend the night at my house. I laughed, but had to admit that not much has changed. I have always been a huge homebody and even when I was a teenager and all of my friends were going out on the weekends, nothing ever sounded better to me than staying at home curled up on the couch watching a movie. There were a few years in my early 20’s when I went out all the time, but that quickly fizzled out. I’m an odd mix of loving to be alone, yet I’m really good with people and can easily strike up a conversation with a stranger. My jobs have always been in customer service and have involved talking to people, whether on the phone or in person, most of the day. It really takes a lot out me though, because when I get home from work I am completely drained of energy even though I sit for most of the day. I heard someone say recently that being an introvert vs. an extrovert means that you draw energy by having alone time vs. drawing energy from being with others. It really has nothing to do with being shy or outgoing. I consider myself to be an outgoing person, but I definitely draw my energy from having alone time. I really, really love to be alone and I honestly never get bored. But if my husband is home for more than a day with nothing to do, he starts to go stir crazy and I just think it’s the weirdest thing ever. I can always think of something to do at home. I think that this is why I’ve always had such a small group of really close friends and have never been the girl with a large circle of friends, I just don’t have the energy or need for it. I am recharged by alone time or a one on one conversation with someone I really care about. It’s funny because now that I really think about it, I guess that’s why I’m so drawn to blogging. Blogging is very solitary most of the time and that’s one of the things that I love about it. I can style an outfit, edit pictures, and write a blog post alone in my house for hours and be as happy as a clam! There really is no place like home. :)

I normally try not to post more than seven or eight pictures of the same outfit, because it doesn’t really seem necessary. I mean, how many different angles, poses, and closeups do you really need before it just becomes overkill and starts to feel way too self indulgent? If I’m being honest, a lot of the time it’s hard to find even a few that I like, either I’m being way too self critical or the outfit is just not flattering. Does that ever happen to you? You think you have the cutest outfit ever and you look great in the mirror, but then you take a picture and it tells a whole different story! That happens to me more than I like to admit. Maybe I should invest in some better mirrors.

Well, I am so happy to say that was not the case with this adorable dress from the new online boutique, Apricity! It took me forever to write this post because I could not narrow down the photos to use. This dress is just too cute, so I decided to use them all! The bow alone deserves a dozen pictures! As I mentioned briefly in my last post, this beautiful boutique is owned by Eileen Chai, who was one of the co-founders of my beloved Fleet Collection. I am so happy that some of Fleet Collection will live on in this new reimagined, but still familiar feeling line. Apricity means the warmth of the sun on a winter day, isn’t that beautiful? As someone who lives in Michigan where the winters can be brutal, I know first hand what a lovely feeling that is….and that’s exactly how this dress makes me feel, lovely. I can’t wait to watch this little boutique grow and flourish. You better believe there will be a lot more Apricity dresses in my future!

It was only two weeks ago that I was gushing about one of my favorite brands, Fleet Collection, and then I got the saddest news delivered to my email inbox last Friday! Fleet Collection is going out of business!! What?!! I was so sad and wish I had known about them sooner. Even though they have been in business for the last four years, I have only known about them for a short time. I had plans to order many more pieces from them and just like that, they are gone. The blow was only slightly softened by the huge discount they are giving for their closing sale. They started to sell out of things very quickly and I’m so glad I got the email when I did, because I was able to snag three beautiful dresses. If you act quickly and check out their website there may still be a few things left. Owners Eileen Chai & Lisa Hsieh sent out a sweet thank you email to all of their customers explaining that they are closing Fleet Collection because they are both starting their own separate ventures. I am sad to see Fleet Collection close, but excited to see what they do next and wish them nothing but the best. I am especially excited for Eileen’s new clothing line, Apricity! It is still a vintage inspired line that looks a lot like everything I loved about Fleet Collection. I actually got my first Apricity dress in the mail today and let me tell you, IT’S AMAZING!! It is so beautifully made and fits like a glove. I am so excited to take photos in it this weekend to share with you all! I seriously love it so much and I highly encourage you to check out Apricity. So I guess it’s not all sad news….when one vintage inspired clothing shop closes, another one opens. ;) Goodbye, Fleet Collection, you will be greatly missed.

It never fails, at this time of year my style shifts slightly. I go from primarily wearing mid-century inspired clothes to a much more laid back boho vibe. I never completely say goodbye to my fit & flare dresses and midi skirts, I just start to make more room for flowy dresses and flower crowns. It must be the warmer weather and longer days that bring out my inner flower child. ;) The other day someone asked me how I would describe my style and at the time I really didn’t have an answer. While I obviously have certain styles I lean toward, I really don’t like to box myself in. I thought about it for a while though and finally came up with an answer that describes my style at this stage of my life…..Mid-century boho chic. I would say my style falls into this category at least 90% of the time. :)

Last week was super busy and I had some really exciting/happy things going on. I can’t wait to share some of them with you, but seeing as how this post was supposed to be up this morning, I’m going to keep it short and sweet today. I hope your week is off to a great start! :)
